Escape to the gorgeous luxury Papavero Villa in the beautiful green hills above Lucca. You'll be greeted by a beautifully landscaped villa estate, lush greenery, fragrant flowers. The villa takes it name from the pretty poppies seen in bloom throughout the region in the spring and summer, papavero means "poppy" in Italian.
Located 15 minutes from Lucca, enjoy exploring Lucca where you can wander the streets, enjoy dinner or rent bikes and bicycle along the top of the ancient wall that encircles the city. Florence, Pisa, the Chianti wine country and the Mediterranean coast line are all an easy drive. Hike in the Apuan Alps, which can be seen from the villa, a 90 minute drive away.
The three-story Papavero villa has French doors on the ground floor that open to the garden where there are two shaded patios, one off the living room, the other off the kitchen with a dining table. The criss-crossed tile on the second floor harkens back to the time when this portion of the original farmhouse was used for storing hay. Dating back to the 15th century, the farmhouse was part of the estate of the noble Buonvisi family who engaged the famous Renaissance architect Matteo Civitali to design their summer estate. The original noble villa, replete with manicured gardens and expansive grounds, can be seen in the valley directly below the Papavero villa.
Start out your day with a cup of cup of coffee in the sun room-gazebo, a cute retreat independent from the main house, head out for sightseeing, wine tasting, wandering the enchanting streets of Lucca and finish off the afternoon with a dip in the sparkling pool before cocktail hour followed by dinner.
From the villa take in views of the Apuan Alps or meditate in the tranquil sun room. Enjoy relaxing around the pool, try your hand at Italian cooking or on chilly evenings relax around a cozy fire in the ground floor den.
