Worthy of Architectural Digest, this dramatically beautiful and luxurious apartment dazzles. Astounding frescoes, designer furniture and original art abound in a national landmark. Truly unique.
In the Santa Croce area of Florence, the building is just before the Ponte alle Grazie, the lovely "bridge of the graces".
The exterior is of an early renaissance style. It was designed by the famous architect Brunelleschi, the same builder of the famous dome of the Florence cathedral. A huge door opens into a graceful cloistered courtyard of charming proportions. A doorman is on duty during daytime hours. Within the courtyard you find original Andrea della Robia ceramic decorations. The large columns are have decorative crowns typical of Brunelleschi`s style.
Building in 1420, the building was renovated in 2012 to form a small number of luxury apartments. This particular apartment has a famous history, being the birthplace of the opera, a musical form developed by the Camerata Fiorentina, a group of scholars and scientists gathered by the owner of the palazzo, Count Bardi.
The La Camerata Fiorentina apartment is on the piano nobile the traditional location of the decorated public rooms of an Italian palazzo. This is the second floor North American designation, first floor European. There is no elevator, one flight of stairs to the apartment.
To ensure that the beauty of the original, historic theater was preserved, the apartment was constructed independent of the greater space. The effect is wonderful; a modern apartment wrapped in ancient beauty. See New York Times article about this Great Home.
From the pleasant entry, you may proceed up a handsome staircase to the public spaces of the apartment. The entry holds a library area, a half bath and entry to the spacious master suite. Straight ahead is the bright open space with seating and entry to two bedrooms.
The public areas of the apartment are above the twin bedrooms in an airy open mezzanine. At one side is the large and very relaxing living room with original Eames furniture. The dining room features a Le Corbusier table.
Cleaning staff 3 hours a day, 7 days a week except holidays. Welcome champagne, food and fruit basket. Bed linen change any third day. Daily towel change except holidays. Complimentary toiletries.
