Dream Come True
Drive less than half an hour south of Florence and find yourself in the romantic Chianti countryside in an ancient village with stunning views across the Pesa Valley. You have your very own thousand year-old castle, magnificent pool and expansive lawns while you lodge in comfort in completely renovated village houses that date from the 1200s.
The castle that is at the heart of the hamlet turned vacation village has a history older than the Florentine republic and was bought by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1511. Its hilltop position once contributed to the defense of the Pesa Valley. Now, a protected monument of Italian cultural heritage, it is owned by a noble descendant of the Machiavelli family.
Tuscany has many castles and hamlets converted for vacationers, but this is an exceptional property because of the quality of the location, restoration, furnishings, grounds, and stunning views, especially at sunset. The furnishings feature lovely antiques, glowing kilim carpets and attractive art, both antique and contemporary, on the walls. The ceilings have handsome exposed beams; the floors are typical "cotto" terracotta tile.
The village has a common room where you can take breakfast and where wine tastings are held. A large, sun soaked swimming pool (May-Sept) lies below a terrace where there are barbecues and covered tables for dining al fresco. You can explore the park-like gardens and groves use mountain bikes various games for children and table tennis.
The village is surrounded by the estate`s olive groves and vineyards and you can sample the different wines it produces including a Chianti Classico of the unique Gallo Nero mark as well as the olive oil and sweet vin santo.
Cold breakfast buffet available in breakfast room, reserved the day before, €10/adult, €5/child. Wine tasting, guided tours, a car with driver, baby sitting, cooking classes, a chef and in the Ayurvedic wellness center, yoga lessons, massages, and facials.
The castle hosts a full-fledged event center for hosting weddings and other special events. Check for the schedule of castle tours, usually offered weekly.
A tiny town is about a mile`s walk away where you will find a small grocery store. More choices for shopping and many fine restaurants are in several towns that are within a fifteen minute drive. A famous Etruscan tomb that was discovered in the vineyards nearby is within walking distance, too. Tennis courts and horse back riding are three miles (4 km), two golf courses are within 15 miles (20 km), and the outlet mall is about a 30 minute drive. And, of course, Florence with all its treasures is just a 20 minute drive.
We commend these accommodations to our clients and urge you to reserve early.
It is an independent farm house in the village with a private garden.
There is a terra-cotta and stone barbecue, iron table and chairs where one can enjoy wonderful barbecues in the open with fabulous views.
The large house is decorated with precious furniture, Kilim carpet and equipped with every modern convenience while keeping to the traditional Tuscan style. The bright entrance hall with an old fireplace leads to two bedrooms. There is a shower bath on this level.
An old staircase takes you down to the ground floor, which opens out onto a private garden accessible from all the rooms: the cozy living room, the dining room and the kitchen decorated in antique terra-cotta tiles. The second shower bathroom is on this level. Outside the full separate kitchen, there is a terra-cotta and stone barbecue, iron table and chairs where one can enjoy wonderful barbecues in the open. Three people can be accommodated on sofa beds in the living room and entrance room. Washing machine. Sleeps 4 + 3.

- We love it!
- The views are stunning.
- The property is beautifully landscaped.
- Very close to Florence, convenient to Siena, and dozens of great hill towns.
- The apartments are first rate, comfortable and well-furnished. The style is elegantly rustic, totally appropriate to the location.
- There are no screens, but mosquito repellant appliances are supplied.
- Four tight, blind curves on the road up from the valley.
- The Florence Siena highway runs below, about two miles away, as the crow flies, so on quiet nights or mornings when the wind is blowing from the west, you may be able to hear it faintly in the distance.
- This is on a hill so plan to climb around.
- First class all around.
Our Guest Reviews
Absolutely loved your recommendation at the Castello Niccolo.
The Trip of a Lifetime
The Niccolo Ginestre and the Castle property of which it is a part are much more beautiful then I could have imagined. The setting is spectacular. There are wonderful vistas from every vantage point. Everything was as advertised and much more. The staff was very helpful and kind. The neighboring town of Montefiridolfi, in addition to having the very fine A Casa Mia restaurant, has a showroom for Neri Firenze where you can see and purchase gorgeous leather and cashmere items. The nearby town of Colle di Val d'Elsa is well worth the trip (take the elevator to the upper town). Monteriggioni is also close by and charming. You are nicely situated for many nice day trips, but can easily venture farther and use the Castle as your home base. The walk to the Etruscan tomb, close to the Castle, is pretty and worthwhile.
Italy Perfect is also as advertised (I first read of Italy perfect in a recommendation by Conde Nast). Their service was honest, accurate, and efficient. Everything was as represented and the advance information provided by Italy Perfect was, well, perfect.
Thank you for helping me enjoy the trip of a lifetime. I should add that I stayed at Niccolo Ginestre for a month. The interior space is almost as enjoyable as the outdoors.
[Thank you so much, Robin. It is a pleasure to enjoy the property and your exploration of Tuscany through your eyes. Please come again! The Italy Perfect Team]
The accommodations and location were beyond expectations! It was our own personal shangrila. Tons of wineries to schedule wine tastings, and easy drive to numerous sites. We will definitely recommend to family and friends.
Our holiday at Niccolo Ginestre was just fantastic. The house was perfect for my husband and I and our three young children. Each morning or afternoon we would visit the spectacular pool to cool off as the temperature was quite hot during our visit.
At the Castello we really enjoyed the wine tasting and castle visit as well as the amazing body massages - definately visit the health and wellness spa!
The surrounding towns of Greve, Castella in Chianti, San Gimano and San Casciano are gorgeous. Dinner at del Nonna's (San Casciano) is a must as is a visit to market day. The cellar tour and wine tasting lunch at Castello di Verrazzano is also a highlight.
We will not leave
Tendrils of rosemary hang from ancient stone walls, scenting the hair tickling air as it rolls up the olive treed slops of Bibbione. If the scent fails to waken memories of childhood landscape, the fresh purple lavender flower waving their fronds in the clean air will. An ancient jewel polished by centuries of weather and the many souls whose feet and hands have trod the stone steps have brought forth a beauty as deep as the roots of its ancient trees. Swallows turn and glide in the evening air. The elevation offers equal panoramas of nimbus and cumulus clouds, supported by hills of green patterned vineyards, olive groves, cypress trees needling heavenward. My Bride and I feel the release of the city's tight coils, the modern serpent has become seduced with bird song its great tail slowly disappearing over the stone wall. The Italian melody living in the young women's voices who have made the comfort of our stay accessible is a music as flavorful as the Chianti wine grown and pressed on this land. The difficulty is that we came to Italy to see its art, its metropolitan culture, its culinary charms and we will not leave the Castello and its land.

Dream Come True
For 30 years I have dreamed of going to Italy. For much of that time I have dreamed of staying in a villa. Ginestra and the staff exceeded my expectations. It was more lovely than I ever dreamed. The staff was helpful and charming. The pool was like an advertisement for the world's greatest spa set in a perfect Tuscan setting and surrounded by lavender. I slept beautifully and would live there if I could. I hope I can return someday.
Great Place to Stay
We had a wonderful stay at Castello Bibbione. Our party had both Niccolo Genestre and La Toretta. The accommodations were spacious, comfortable, clean and well maintained. The location is beautiful, with views of vineyards and Tuscan hills. We stayed in late August and spent the mornings and early afternoons on day-trips to Pisa, Siena and Florence, which are all a short drive away. We returned in the afternoon to use the pool. The pictures on the website do not do the pool justice. It is quite large and has a beautiful view of the countryside. Was a very nice break from the heat. The kitchen and dining room in Niccolo Geneste were large enought that we were able to have a cooking class for seven comfortably. The breakfast that is available in one of the common areas was very nice. We had made a reservation one morning for 7:30 a.m., but several of us didn't make it until 9:30. Despite that we were the only ones that had reserved breakfast that day, the gentleman in charge of the room patiently waited for all of us.
The only issue we had was that the accomodations were very hot. This is no surprise given that it was the end of August, but we were getting bees and wasps inside when we tried to leave all of the windows open so had to keep them shut much of the time. The fans supplied in each room made it sufficiently comfortable at night. Make sure you get Vape plug-ins from the store to keep the mosquitos away.
The service by the women working in the office was really wonderful. They assisted on several occassions with restaurant suggestions, bus schedules, etc. They made an extra effort to obtain whatever we needed.
The location is great. A five to ten minute drive to San Casciano and a few other small towns where we went for dinner.
We would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay at Niccolo Ginestre. We all loved the fact that the actual experience matched, if not, exceeded the expectations we had from seeing the beautiful pictures and descriptions on the website. The view is amazing...
