Enjoy

Picture perfect views of the rolling Chianti hillsides, vineyards, olive orchards.

Casa San Vito is a gracious restored Tuscan farmhouse. Care was taken in the remodeling process to retain the many charming rustic and charming features while providing modern comforts and conveniences. The house has spectacular views of the peaceful countryside where vineyards abound in this majestic Chianti setting. The house was named after the tiny San Vito parish church that is nearby. The upaved road that runs in front of the house is known as "San Vito di Sopra" (San Vito High Road) and the paved road below that leads to the turn off to the property is called "San Vito di Sotto" (San Vito Low Road).

We enjoyed going for walks right from the villa's door, which offered more of the amazing views also available in every direction from the villa itself.

Casa San Vito is located at the western edge of the famous Chianti Classico region in Tuscany, between Florence and Siena. The landscape is a patchwork quilt of vineyards, the occasional tall cypress tree, umbrella pines and the grey-green of olive groves.

According to one Italian legend, farmers used to plant a cypress tree to announce the birth, and subsequent marriage eligibility, of each daughter. When the cypress tree reached viewing height across the countryside it was a signal to suitors that papa was ready to find a match for his bella figlia (daughter)! While this tale has dubious origins, it`s certainly an amusing thought as you gaze across the cypress-dotted hills spotting a lone tree here or an entire row there.

Location

Casa San Vito is located in the countryside between Florence and Siena. The nearest towns are San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, just a short drive away where you will find restaurants, grocery stores.

The nearby town of San Casciano is a handy base for groceries, restaurants and shopping.

Nearby are the small villages of Romita, Tavarnelle and San Cristina in Salivolpe and the ancient hilltop town of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, located between the Greve and Pesa valleys. This scenic town is surrounded by an ancient wall dating back to the 14th and 16th centuries and has beautiful views looking down over the Chianti countryside. Every Monday morning is market day in San Casciano where you can shop for the freshest produce, meats, fish, cheese and flowers. Be sure to sample the wonderful array of local extra virgin olive oils and honey too. San Casciano and Tavarnelle both have supermarkets, and numerous small shops if you prefer, such as a butcher, fruit and vegetable shops, post office, bank, gas station. Tavarnelle has a farmer`s market on Thursday mornings. In San Casciano there are numerous good restaurants, pizzerie.

The nearby village of Cerbaia, about 6 miles from San Casciano, has the distinction of having one of Italy`s most celebrated restaurants, La Tenda Rossa. It is one of the handful of restaurants in all of Italy to receive a remarkable two stars from the revered Michelin Red Guide!

Just beyond Cerbaia is Montespertoli, famous for its red wines. You won`t forget for a minute that you`re in the heart of Chianti. Keep going in the direction from San Casciano towards Florence and you`ll find a great cafe in the tiny village of Santa Andrea in Percussina. This village is famous for being the home of the writer-politician Niccolo Macchiavelli

The house is conveniently situated in one of the best parts of the Chianti region of Tuscany for daily excursions to see the famous towers of San Gimignano, the sites of beautiful Siena, the baths of Montecatini, and is a wine aficionados paradise if you want to sample the many excellent varieties of Chianti! You can even make a day trip to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa as it`s only a 1.5 hour drive away, as is the graceful town of Lucca.

Exterior

Casa San Vito is off a small country road on a vineyard property that produces a lovely Chianti wine from the robust San Giovese, Malvasia, Trebbiano and Canaiolo grapes grown there. Additionally, the estate grows olives that are pressed into an excellent extra virgin olive oil.

Interior

On the ground floor set into cool stone walls is what was once the original barn, now converted into a loggia, or covered patio, which is essentially an outdoor living room in the summer. Go up the front stairs and you are greeted by a wide hallway as you cross the threshold. The living room is to the left and the eat-in kitchen is to the right. Down the hallway are the bedrooms and bathrooms.

We loved our morning coffee on the patio with those beautiful views and eating dinner in the warm, cozy kitchen.

The house has terracotta floors and original wooden ceiling beams. There are screens on the windows. The living room has a large working fireplace with comfortable seating, a sofa bed, and a window that overlooks the property.

The kitchen has a large table that expands to seat eight people for comfortable, casual meals and lively conversation.

There is a laundry room off the hallway with a washing machine.

The villa was very clean, with modern appliances and the location was perfect to explore the hill towns of Tuscany.

If you like the "sister" house, Casa Rossa across the lawn, you`ll love Casa San Vito! Plus it has the added benefit of a third bedroom.

The house does not have a swimming pool. In addition, please note that opposite Casa San Vito, across the yard, is Casa Rossa , another vacation rental villa. Because of its proximity it`s very convenient for two families or friends that want togetherness but want their privacy too. The two houses are 30 meters (32 yards) apart, separated by a grass lawn. The road leading to the house is very lightly traveled.

Bedrooms

The master bedroom has a divisable king bed which can be made up as a king or two twins and an ensuite bath. The window looks out towards the vine-covered hills. It has a pretty antique dresser.

The spacious second bedroom has a queen bed and window looking east. We have dubbed this the Romantica bedroom because of the lovely heirloom bedstead.

The third bedroom is small but very functional and has two twin beds and an antique armoire.

Bathrooms

The master bathroom has a shower, toilet, bidet and sink. The view from this particular window is one of the best as you gaze over the olive grove out to Chianti`s rolling hills. On a clear day you can see all the way to Florence.

The second bathroom has a jetted bathtub, toilet, sink and bidet and a hand-held shower spray attachment. The bathroom sink is set into a spacious cabinet, with plenty of countertop space and storage space in the cabinet underneath.

Our Guest Reviews

Perfect place to stay in Tuscany great surroundings and easy access to everything.
Sep 2018

There were four of us staying here and thoroughly enjoyed the villa and surrounding area. The villa was spacious, clean and comfortable. Francesco and his mother were delightful and Francisco spoke perfect English. He was very helpful with where to shop, eat and visit wineries.

The home and the property were lovely and peaceful.
Sep 2018

We arrived there late afternoon and we immediately felt relaxed. Francesco's mom welcomed us. After spending some days in Florence this was for me the best part of our trip. Being in nature here and having a beautiful comfortable home is a great way to experience Italy. We toured places during day ( Sienna etc.) and being able to return to such an oasis was awesome. I would love to come again in future.

Casa San Vito
Jun 2018

Casa San Vito is a beautiful, comfortable and quiet country home. We had a wonderful stay in the region, visiting wineries and small villages tasting the local food. Francesco was a very gracious host and was very helpful during our stay. I recommend this property to anyone who would love to explore the Chianti region by car.

Casa magnifica
Jan 2018

Promosso a pieni voti. Casa San Vito
Oct 2017

Casa San Vito was a lovely base for our trip to Italy! The setting was delightful- vineyards and olive groves all around us! My husband and I brought friends who had never been to Italy and we, having lived in Europe for many years, were quite familiar with our surroundings and all the wonderful places we wanted them to experience.
The owners recommended local restaurants which were charming. And it was easy to just relax in the house with a glass of wine and a fire!
I would definitely recommend Casa San Vito and Italy Perfect!

Spacious, stylish rustic country retreat, well appointed with good facilities.
Sep 2017

The accommodation was a spacious first floor apartment of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse. It has been sympathetically converted into a large airy Tuscan retreat with beautiful views from every aspect. All the bedrooms were furnished with beautiful traditional antique furniture. Terracotta tiling throughout All the beds were extremely comfortable. The bathrooms were modern and worked well . The kitchen served us very well and we cooked both inside and out, utilising outdoor seating, tables, sunbeds and umbrella. This was a lovely rural retreat reached via a country road with a very convenient small but well stocked local store/cafe/bar in nearby Romita. Francesco, the owner was attentive and responsive to any enquiry we had.

Glorious Tuscany
Aug 2017

Casa San Vito was incredible! Views from every window were breathtaking. The grapes and olives growing everywhere! And a few fruit trees and herbs growing near the house were a nice touch! We even used some of the basil and rosemary. The house is well planned and squeaky clean. Francesco and his Mom made sure the house and yard were set-up for all 6 of us to enjoy the wonderful Tuscan mornings and sunsets. We invited Chefs of Tuscany to cook for us one evening and enjoyed our delightful repast in the yard. On several occasions, Francesco made reservations at the local restaurants and even found us a driver to take us to Siena for a day. The location was good for access to the highway SR2, while also close to many local wineries, cheese outlets and food stores that we could drive to. Our favorite restaurants were Fattoria Romita and La Fornace in Tavarnelle. I'm not sure why we didn't know about the Corzanello and Paterno winery a little further down via San Vito di Sopra but found out about it by Friday and had a tasting for breakfast! We enjoyed San Casciano too and Antica Fiaschetteria del Chianti. However, we would have liked a better idea of how to get to Florence with the cars. We really did not enjoy driving there. It helped to have a driver when we went to Siena. The kitchen allowed us to keep provisions (such as wine and cheese and proscuito) and re-heat leftovers. We ate breakfast there almost every day. The small store in Romita and the larger food coop in Tavarnelle provided a wide variety of foods. Espresso pots were plentiful but the American coffee pot needed to be specially requested and Francesco got it to us by Tuesday. No microwave or clothes drier took a bit of getting used to. No air conditioning....no worries. I wore socks and long pajamas one night. The rest were mostly breezy and cool, even though the days were fairly hot into the 90's. The screens and shutters were a good system for allowing air to flow while keeping the mosquitos out, but some of the screens were ripped, and the front door had no screen so this was a bit of a struggle. The road outside the house was not paved, and some dust would fly when cars went by causing a little dusting to end up in the adjacent rooms when the windows were opened. Although the rustic, country feeling had a few small downsides, they were nothing compared to the amazing beauty and closeness to nature. I felt very comfortable and very lucky to spend a week at beautiful Casa San Vito. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in experiencing a good taste of Tuscany.
