Spring brings a fresh energy to Venice as mimosa flowers brighten hidden courtyard gardens and the days grow warmer. With the summer crowds still on the horizon, it's an ideal moment to enjoy the city's sights, seasonal traditions and special events.

St Mark's Day and the Bocolo Festival

Venice honors its patron saint each year on St. Mark's Day with services at the magnificent Basilica di San Marco. It's a perfect occasion to explore the basilica's dazzling mosaics, sacred relics and treasures. Sharing the same date is the beloved Bocolo Festival, a romantic tradition inspired by the legend of a Doge's daughter and her soldier beloved. The young man died in battle, but not before sending her a white rose stained red with his blood. Today, Venetian men gift a single red rose to the women they love in memory of his devotion, and flower stalls fill the streets with crimson blooms.
