The Medici Apartment in Florence is simply the most beautiful apartment in the world.
Relax with friends and family in your comfortable living rooms with truly outstanding views over all of the Piazza Santa Croce! The Medici delivers on so many fronts, but the views will mesmerize you!
The Medici apartment is made for a dynasty with space for everyone to come together. This historic palazzo in Piazza Santa Croce contains totally up-to-date apartments in central Florence, Italy. Not only are the furnishings luxurious, the views over the piazza to the handsome medieval church are breathtaking. Each apartment features its own historic atmosphere with Renaissance murals, family heirloom antiques, and talented decorating. Many guests spend the season here, returning year after year.
Conveniently located in the heart of the historical center of Florence, in Piazza Santa Croce, the palazzo is a landmark Renaissance Palazzo, and one of the few left in the historic center of Florence with a dramatic frescoed facade.
Piazza Santa Croce is a traffic free square but the people going through the square in the evenings may be noisy. Piazza Santa Croce is the site of occasional events. Watching the Calcio Storico in June (soccer in costumes, see photos) from the Palazzo is an exciting privilege. The Christmas Market is fun, too. Other events can include theater, music concerts and ceremonies that you may enjoy or find noisy or both! Most of these events appear on the calendar fairly late, but you can check on this site www.firenzetoday.it/eventi/. Ask us for help.
During late May thru late June there is noise in the piazza related to the Calico Storico, historic soccer matches. Late May is bleacher set up, June is practices and matches. If you can catch any of the play-offs (dates not advised in advance) or the final on June 24th, you’ll get a rare treat and the “best seat in the house”. For more information look up Calcio Storico on YouTube.
Many people passing through Piazza Santa Croce notice Giovanni di Ser Giovanni`s 1620 frescoes on the overhanging facade this handsome building, but few realize they can actually stay here. The 16th-century palazzo is owned by the gracious Contessa Piccolomini, who rents out truly spacious apartments to anyone who has ever dreamed of lying in bed near a roaring fire under a 17th-century frescoed ceiling or sipping tea in a living room surrounded by trompe d`oeil Roman ruins with a 16th-century wood ceiling above.
It is on the third floor (North American designation) of the Palazzo and an elevator takes you all the way.
The elegant living room has three floor-to-ceiling windows which give you the finest possible view onto the piazza.
The adjoining room has a seating area with the same large windows. Behind is the large kitchen with a small dining table. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped.
The formal dining room is large with an antique table that will seat twelve.
Throughout the apartment are the original beamed ceilings from the 1500s, the time of the Renaissance.
Ultimate flexibility with two bedrooms featuring queens that can be divided into two singles or, in one room, two singles that can be joined to form a queen. The front bedroom, the one that faces the piazza, has a floor to ceiling glass wall between the sleeping area and the window area, offering a complete sound barrier between the sleeping area and the piazza and the adjoining public rooms.
For the 7th person the living room has a sofa bed or a cot can be provided. For the 8th person a cot can be provided for an additional fee.
Four bathrooms: three with showers and one with tub and shower.
Facilities: Air conditioning, independently controlled heating, dishwasher, washer, dryer, oven, microwave oven, toaster, American coffee maker, satellite TV, stereo hi-fi, CD and DVD players, high speed wireless connection, hair dryer, iron + ironing board. Use of small Palazzo private gym.

- Lovely apartments. Very comfortable and well appointed.
- We love observing the daily life of the piazza starting with street cleaners, dog walkers, children going to school, the first tourists all the way till the after dinner strollers. So please note that sounds from the piazza will reach into the apartment.
- There are always things going on in the piazza including art installations, athletic events, music events, the big Calcio Storico during June and the Christmas market that may involve the erecting of temporary structures. You can't really expect quiet in rooms with windows directly on the piazza. Some events that involve bleachers can block lower windows.
- One of the lowest spots in the city, note the high water marks on the buildings in the neighborhood -- on the second floor.
- The Santa Croce church with the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli and more is worth a day.
- Additional fees for utilities that are charged according to use.
- One of the bedrooms overlooks the piazza that is traffic-free but people walking through the square in the evenings or at night may be noisy. Windows are double glazed and running the fan can create white noise. But light sleepers should take note since often their sleep cycles are disturbed by jet lag anyway.
Our Guest Reviews
Wonderful Penthouse at Santa Croce Plaza
While we had high hopes for our family week in Florence with our 3 grown up children; Miravista clearly exceeded our expectations. It was a very comfortable, nicely understated decorated, with good 2 1/2 bathrooms and ample kitchen, sunny penthouse.
While it had a good modern elevator, other than the day we arrived and departed with the luggage, the 5 of us (age 63, 61, our children 34, 31 and 29) always preferred the fun of enjoying to walk up and down the 92 steps; particularly after a nice dinner.
Unfortunately, the weather was a bit cold as to enjoy the beautiful terrace overlooking the Plaza and the mountains; if it were spring or summer we would have spent long hours there...
Waking up and having a leisure breakfast in front of the large window and terrace overlooking the Plaza was a fantastic way to start the day.
The restaurant below was one of the best we had and at good prices; the owners and staff were incredibly friendly; we spent new year's eve with them.
The location was great; just a 3 block walk to most of the landmarks...and yet quiet enough from the bulk of the tourists.
Finally, the host was very educated and made our checkin / checkout a breeze.
In addition, Pat Byrne was incredibly friendly and efficient and was making sure our reservation, paperwork and itinerary was up to date....Thank you Pat & Madelyne!
Wonderful Time in Italy
Just wanted to let you know we had a wonderful time in Italy in August! Thank you so much for all of your help. I also wanted to mention that the driver we had, Benjamin, was absolutely wonderful and I appreciated the recommendation. He helped make our trip even better, sharing all kinds of information with us on our long drives to and from Rome. And the tours were fantastic! We loved Medici. Thanks again!
[We are glad to hear about your amazing time! We look forward to your return! The Italy Perfect Team]
We very enjoyed the apartment and location!
It was perfectly located and everyone there was very kind! The Florence apartment and people there were perfect as promised!
Thank you for kindness and patience!
SO thrilled to have discovered Italy Perfect... really was perfect!
I can't say enough about how amazing Italy Perfect was. I had been trying to use AirBnb and HomeAway for weeks attempting to navigate the perfect location for a group of us in Florence. Every time I would find a place it would be already booked (although the sites didn't show that). I was about to give up when I discovered Italy Perfect literally days before departing. They were amazing. So incredibly helpful, I even spoke to someone on the phone who offered to go buy gifts I wanted to give my fellow travelers when we arrived. The customer service was beyond compare.
The apartment was better than I ever could have imagined. Comfortable, clean, and just plain easy. It truly felt like home. The location was absolutely perfect. I can't wait to go back and stay there again... or check out another one of their properties.
From now on I will skip right past those other sites and go straight to Italy Perfect. I wish I would have realized that earlier and not wasted my time with all the stress!!
[Thank you Andrejka, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you again! The Italy Perfect Team]
perfect for a bigger family great location
Traveling with four kids and two adults was challenging throughout Europe but this apartment fit us well. The apartment may actually have been too big as we never used the living room or dining room. The kitchen has couches and chairs so like all good parties we ended up spending time as a family in the kitchen.
St. Croce Square is a great place to be, you feel like you are in the heart of everything. Though we had most breakfasts in the apartment at the foot of the stairs is a great place to eat.(Ristorante Boccadama) In fact we liked it so mush we ate there twice, a little crazy thinking how many other great places in Florence we could have gone.
While we are talking food, Great burgers and beer are to be found at "Off the Hook" just down the road and if you are really craving a change from Italian food there is also a great Raman noodle place also just a little ways from the apartment.
Having come from an all included apartment in Venice it was a surprise to us when the apparent managers started talking us through all of the changes we would face. Tourest charges, electricity and gas charges all seemed overwhelming. We did do laundry but hung it out and kept the AC low so sleeping was a bit uncomfortable. When we checked out total extra fees were 30 euro! Darn if I had not been so spooked by the fees we would have been a lot more comfortable! Bad dad...
Stay here and enjoy!

Renting an apartment in Florence
Great apartment in wonderful area of Florence. Overall price was reasonable but would have preferred one lump sum price instead of extras (i.e, gas). Apartment was beautifully furnished with everything that you would need or want.
[We are happy you enjoyed the S. Croce Medici apartment and the wonderful location. We'll pass your feedback along to the owner but glad you were aware, even before reserving, that the utilities are paid separately based on your usage. We carefully ensure all potential guests are fully informed of this common practice in Italy where utilities are 6x the prices in North America. The Italy Perfect Team]
Excellent stay in Florence
The Medici apartment was in an excellent location. It was just right for 3 couples plus had large living and eating areas so we had others in our party staying in other Italy Perfect apartments visit almost daily for happy hour drinks and snacks recounting the sights and sounds of the day. The kitchen was excellent and well equipped. Our greeter was very helpful and made the move in process very easy. Right out your front door is the Santa Croce church which is excellent. Italy Perfect contracted Veronica as our tour guide for several places in the city. She was very affordable and very knowledgeable and brought to life what you were seeing. She had the "whisperers" so everyone could hear her even in the jam packed Uffizi. A tip on seeing the David. Go in the late afternoon. North of the entrance where the long line goes in and on the opposite side of the street is the "timed ticket" booth. Walk up and ask to go in "now". Costs 4 euros more but you are inside in less than 10 minutes. Worked for everyone of us in our group. Italy Perfect contracted for a couple of excellent vans who took 12 of us to Siena and San Gimignano for the day. Excellent vehicles and drivers - takes you right to the entrances. Very reasonably priced. Don't miss the Siena Duomo and the Italy Perfect recommended restaurant had the best gnocchi I have ever eaten! We went in late October, which was kind of cool for eating outdoors, so I'd recommend mid to late September. It was a fabulous week in Florence and Italy Perfect was a big part of it. We will definitely use them for our next trip.
[Thank you Andy, we are delighted that you had a wonderful stay! The Italy Perfect Team]
A Week in Florence
The accommodations were good and in a great location. Easy walking to many places of interest.
We were fortunate in that the weekend we were there, there was a concert in the square in front of Santa Croce featuring the world renown tenor Placido Domingo. We got to watch and listen from our apartment balcony. Probably at least ten thousand ticket buyers as we took it all in for free.
I would have happily moved in for good
We had a wonderful stay. The apartment is stunning and I would have happily moved in for good. Looking forward to coming back!
We rented Medici along with Giotto for our family of 13 over Christmas. It was truly like living in a palace ! The apartment was huge but cozy, and had plenty of space for 9 adults and 4 children to dine and "hang out!"
The kitchen was incredibly well appointed! (There was even a food mill! ) We were able to cook dinner for Christmas Eve, Christmas , and two other evenings with ease! Grocery stores, shopping, and restaurants were all within easy walking distance.
All this and overlooking the beautiful Piazza Santa Croce!
[Thank you so much Deborah. We are delighted you and your family had such a lovely holiday. The Italy Perfect Team]
