Of all the places we stayed in Italy the Rondine apartment was our favorite.
Recharge in this beautiful, comfortable lofted apartment after your days adventures in Florence. This romantic nest will welcome and charm you!
This delightful 2nd floor (American 3rd) apartment, once the studio of the great painter Ingres, has a wonderful view over the Antinori Garden and a large Magnolia tree.
Since the 1300s, before the Renaissance, this neighborhood around Via Tornabuoni has been part of the center of commerce and activity in Florence. Narrow, wandering streets depart from the grid-pattern of the ancient Roman colony a few streets away toward the Duomo, the iconic Cathedral of Florence, city of flowers.
The palazzo, a handsome building from the early 1300s, was built by a Florentine merchant who grew wealthy from the spice trade. It would have housed his offices and, on the upper floors, his family. In the 1800s, many painters` atleliers were established in the building which is probably the reason many of the apartments, Rodine included, have large windows for natural light. The famous painter Ingres once had a studio here.
On the 3th Floor (North American designation) with elevator is the special Rondine apartment, with a lovely lofted bedroom.
You enter the apartment through a small vestibule painted in Trompe l'oeil. Three steps lead you into a spacious living room, elegantly furnished with two three seater sofas, one of which is a pull-out double-bed, and two comfortable armchairs.
Reminding you that you are in the city of art, the wall above the sofa is decorated with a beautiful fresco of citrus trees. A very large wardrobe occupies another of the living room walls. In an alcove below the loft is the dining table which seats six and to the right is the entrance to the fully equipped kitchen decorated with pretty Italian tiles.
A wooden staircase with a balustrade leads up to the sleeping loft. The balcony has a divisible king bed, a wardrobe and a set of delightful prints on the walls.
From the bedroom, a door, decorated with a Trompe l'oeil to resemble a draped curtain, leads into the full bathroom, with a tub and hand-shower. The bathroom has wonderful light and is very luminous thanks to a large window with views out onto the roof.
