Excellent location and nice, bright apartment.
A bright, quiet and gracious one bedroom apartment with beautiful tall ceilings located in a handsome palazzo in a wonderful central neighbourhood around Via Tornabuoni.
Since the 1300s, before the Renaissance, this neighborhood around Via Tornabuoni has been part of the center of commerce and activity in Florence. Narrow, wandering streets depart from the grid-pattern of the ancient Roman colony a few streets away toward the Duomo, the iconic Cathedral of Florence, city of flowers.
The palazzo, a handsome building from the early 1300s, was built by a Florentine merchant who grew wealthy from the spice trade. It would have housed his offices and, on the upper floors, his family. In the 1800s, many painters` atleliers were established in the building which is probably the reason many of the apartments, Pavone included, have large windows for natural light. The famous painter Ingres once had a studio here.
On the traditional "piano nobile" that, in Italian palazzos is where the finest rooms are located. The apartment entrance opens into the impressive dining-living room, with its very high coffered ceiling and traditional Tuscan terracotta floor. Two very tall studio windows bring in wonderful natural light. The view is over the well-maintained private gardens of the palazzo. The living room walls benefit from this city of art with elegant trompe l`oeil paintings that resemble further windows and traditional renaissance geometric patterns.
There are two large sofas (one can pull out to become a double bed) and armchairs all furnished in a color palette of cream, dusty blues and cinnamon. To one side of the living room is the dining area which seats six and leads into the spacious kitchen with decorative tiling and is complete with modern appliances.
On the opposite side of the living room a door opens onto a brief passage leading into the bedroom. Along the passage a spacious built-in cabinet with shelves is useful for storage purposes.
The bedroom is quiet and cosy with a window looking out onto an internal courtyard. The large double bed (which can be made into two single beds) is covered in tones of rich blue as is the bed-stead. There is a pretty cupboard with ample space for hanging clothes. Just beyond the bedroom is an ante-chamber to the bathroom with a washbasin and a curtained closet with further storage. The floor tiles are hand painted green and run through to the bathroom which has a bath tub with a hand held power-shower and heated towel rails.
