Roman Cooking in the Family

We have been to a variety of Italian cooking lessons and found Spaghetti in the Family just outside Rome a wonderful alternative to more formal programs. This family of Roman food fanatics lives in a suburb of Rome, easily reached by the Metro, and invites you to join them as they prepare a meal with the whole family.

Mom, Dad, Son = Chef 1, Nephew = Chef 2 glide around the kitchen, teaching, stirring, chatting, laughing while classic Italian music plays. Grandma popped in to see what was cooking and their daughter and beau stopped for a chat and a nibble.

Our menu included homemade (by us!) spinach and ricotta ravioli, involtini of beef Roman-style and tiramisu.  We started with “caprese bites” of cherry tomatoes with basil and mozzarella and a tasting of olive oils. Regional wines from family friends’ vineyards.

Lisa making the pasta.

While we prepared all the items from scratch from fresh ingredients our chefs explained how to select the right eggs for the pasta, the differences between southern Italian and more northern olive oils and the deep appreciation of the meal that arises from hand preparation. The chefs are formally trained and experienced professionals and are available to come to your vacation rental apartment to prepare meals with or for you.

In the summertime you eat in the pretty garden.  We want to come back for their program that involves shopping for the ingredients in the local farmer’s market. They also have week-end and longer programs for a deeper understanding of Roman cooking. Please, when you contact them, say hello from their friends at Italy Perfect.
