The living room is bright. The sofa faces the sunny window, two chairs provide good seating for relaxing in the living room. Big window admits lots of light and has nice views of Tuscan hills in the distance.
Rooftop views from the living room and bedroom windows, an especially nice feature since you're not directly facing another building. In the distance are the hills that surround Florence, a timeless and enjoyable view.
Comfortable queen size bed, plenty of light from the large window. Windows have internal wood panels so late risers can opt to shut them in order to sleep in.
High quality kitchen with good storage, counter space and room to work.
Eat-in kitchen has expandable table and seating for four. Planted flower boxes outside the window are a nice touch. The kitchen window faces a clean, well maintained light well, no scenic views.
Kitchen has all the amenities, fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes. Nearby is Florence's Mercato Centrale, Central Market, the most famous covered food market in Florence which will tempt you with the bountiful variety of fresh food and gourmet specialities.
Bathroom gets good light. It has a fully enclosed shower, sink, toilet and bidet.
Stepping through the front door the living room can be glimpsed to the left. Folding doors at the end of the hall open to the washing machine and broom closet. The kitchen is at the end of the hall to the right of the laundry room.
Living room pull-down double size Murphy bed can accommodate two people. It is easy to put up or down. Mattress is firm but better than a thin folding sofa bed mattress.
Looking to the left out the window. The apartment has an enviable position on the top floor so it is a bright apartment with lots of natural light.
Down the block from the apartment is Ristorante Caffaggi, with Florentine specialties. Their fixed price menu is a good value, food is delightful and authentic.
A pastime enjoyed throughout Italy is to people watch out the window. You'll likely spot neighbors across the way doing the same. The white awning at the corner is the neighborhood bakery and pizzeria.

At the end of the block is a handy alimentari, a mom-and-pop style grocer, with food essentials and some tasty takeaway items.
At the corner is a bakery with pastries and tasty pizza. Each morning you can pop downstairs and choose freshly baked treats to go with your morning coffee.
Down the street from the apartment is the small Church of St. Barnabus, open occasionally. Built in the 14th century to celebrate a victory by the Florentine Guelphs over Ghibelline's from Arezzo.
More neighborhood views of the streets surrounding the Solare apartment. This is about one block away, you can see the mix of apartment building with small shops, restaurants on the ground floor.
The same bakery at the corner that sells pastries also has good pizza. In olden days homes did not have ovens. Locals relied on the local bakery for baked sweet or savory food or would bring their homemade lasagna, prepared only for special occasions, to be cooked in the baker's ovens.
Around the corner is another favorite neighborhood restaurant with excellent roasted meats.
Two blocks away is a supermarket that has a full array of foods, produce, household cleaning products and toiletries. It is open on Sundays which is quite handy.
Charming, small neighborhood streets typical of this part of Florence. This is Via dei Ginori where the supermarket is located. Continue 2 blocks on this street and you'll be at Piazza San Lorenzo.
There are so many interesting fine craft traditions still carried on throughout Florence. Just a block from the apartment, on Via dei Ginori, is a shoemaker who carries on the fine tradition of custom made shoes.
Fascinating walks throughout the neighborhood. This is the facade of the Riccardi Library on Via dei Ginori. Built in the 1600's it is open to the public, has beautiful frescoed ceilings, biblical manuscripts and original works of Niccolo' Macchiavelli.

The famous unfinished facade of the Church of San Lorenzo. On the other side is the entrance to the Medici Chapels, burial spot for the Renaissance rulers.
Surrounding the church are the San Lorenzo market stalls selling leather goods, trinkets, sweaters, scarves, Florentine paper goods. Fun if you need inexpensive souvenirs and like haggling over the price.
Crepe and drink stand in Piazza San Lorenzo is good for appeasing cranky kids or thirsty hubby while you shop the market stalls. Crepe filled with Nutella is yummy!
