Luxury apartment where you can enjoy a privileged life style appropriate to the finest neighborhood in Rome.

Location

Overlooking the exclusive Hotel d'Inghilterra and on the corner of Via Condotti in Rome, the Valentina apartment is in the heart of all that is elegant in the Eternal City. A two minute walk puts you in front of the Spanish Steps, a location that is so popular because it is so central. Stroll for 15 minutes and you can find yourself at most of the noteworthy sites of historic Rome.

Exterior

The building mirrors the neighborhood, a proper "palazzo" built about 250 years ago when the Princes Torlonia were amassing their fortunes by managing the fortunes of the Vatican and build the palace across the street. The warm ochre of the Palazzo, enhanced by its white marble casements, dominates the near-view from two of the living room windows. The palace is subtly lit at night; it glows but doesn't glare into the windows of the apartment.

The apartment is on the third floor (second, European designation) and adjoins the Renata apartment. For a large family group there is also the Zegno apartment two floors up.

Interior

Spacious and quiet elegance typify this fine apartment. Four large windows light the living room, two look up Via Condotti towards the Spanish Steps and two overlook Hotel d'Inghilterra and via Bocca di Leone.

Two white sofas are grouped by the working, gas fireplace that features stonework from the ancestral home in southern Italy. The hand-hewn ceiling beams have been exposed to display the room as it was originally designed. Also in the living room are some fine antique pieces, a sideboard, a desk, and a long dining table that will seat eight. The living room has a television with satellite reception. The apartment is wired for high-speed internet.

Next to the living room is a good-sized bedroom that can be configured with twin beds or a dual-king. The closet area is great for travelers with spaces for stowing your suitcases and open shelves and rods that keep your items in view. The closet leads to a bathroom with step-in shower that has a fixed shower head as well as hand-held shower.

From the large entry, one can enter the living room or proceed down the hallway to laundry, kitchen, small bedroom and second large bedroom. The hallway has floor to ceiling French doors that open over a railing onto the internal courtyard. It is a great way of bringing in cooling breezes and the warm Roman weather.

The floors are tile throughout.

Off the hall is a nook that contains a washing machine across the hall from the well-lit, galley-style kitchen that has a four burner stove top, microwave oven, dishwasher, small refrigerator/freezer, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, flatware, and pots and pans.

The next bedroom is the smallest, with just room for a single bed and an antique desk with a large antique mirror. The sixth sleeping place is perched high in this room, accessed by a ladder. The sleeping loft with safety rails has a French twin, i.e. large twin mattress. A little shelf for your book and glasses and a reading light are all you find up here. There is however, an air conditioning unit high in this room so it will be comfortable even during hot nights.

Directly across the hall is a bathroom with a small step in shower stall with telephone style shower head that can be used by the small bedroom occupants and also is easily accessed by guests.

The second large bedroom has two twin beds that can be made up together as a dual-king. A small balcony with planters opens onto the interior of the block with views of several nice terraces and well-gardened balconies. The dressing and closet area is well thought out for guests with space to stow luggage and open shelves and rods for clothing. The closet area leads to a bathroom with Jacuzzi tub with fixed shower head above it as well as a handheld shower.

Reviews and Customer Testimonials for Italy Vacation Rental

Our Review
  • The owner has wonderful taste and has used this apartment and Renata next door to display art and antiques from her ancestral home.

  • To give a sense of calm luxury, linens and upholstery are primarily crisp white.

  • Particular attention has been paid to the needs of vacation guests so that there is a place for luggage and closets are open so things don't get lost in drawers.

  • All bathrooms are equipped with a fixed-head shower as well as a hand-held one.

  • The location is terrific.

  • The loft bed will probably appeal only to teenagers; you can't stand up in the loft and you've got to clamber up on a ladder.

  • Via Condotti is a pedestrian-only street, except for taxis, local deliveries and motorini (motor scooters) that seem to buzz around with impunity. In the warm months the murmur of the pedestrians can carry up to open living room windows.

  • The master bedroom and small bedroom windows open onto the interior courtyard, quiet.

Guest Book Testimonials
A great oasis for a family in Rome Sep 2011

My family of 5 (including 3 teenagers) spent 5 nights in Rome, staying at the Valentina apartment near the Spanish steps. The apartment was spacious, very comfortable (the air conditioning was fabulous during the heat wave we encountered) and extremely well situated for visiting the city. It is 2 blocks from the Metro station and cab stand, close to lots of restaurants and shops, including a grocery store where we stocked up on breakfast items. The owner met us at the apartment (we called from the Rome airport), oriented us to the place and helped out when needed (wi fi went down one day - very important to teenagers).

With a family this size, staying in an apartment makes the visit so much more enjoyable. This is a lovely place to stay. We didn't really cook - the kitchen was small by American standards but worked well for our needs.

We tried restaurants recommended by the owner and in Rick Steves' guidebook (all good) and found a great one on our own (at the corner of Via Margutta and via del Fontenella, near Piazza del Poplo.

Italy Perfect handled all the details beautifully. Thank you Lisa.

Valentina apartment Jul 2011

We stayed 5 days in the Valentina apartment near the Spanish Steps in July of 2011. The property location is outstanding and is within walking distance of everything other than the Vatican area.

We had 2 families and the apartment provided us with plenty of room both from a sleeping standpoint but also from a living area standpoint. The owner and the host who we at the property were great and very helpful.

Italy perfect who we booked the property through were outstanding. They provided us with some excellent information before we arrived and gave us excellent restaurant recommendations.

We would definitely recommend both Italy Perfect and the Valentina apartment.

Roman Holiday Apr 2011

Four of us traveled to Rome last year, spring 2010. We absolutely loved our apartment, the Valentina. We were close to everything we needed and walked to the market, restaurants, shopping and sightseeing. We opened the windows in the parlor and felt like we were part of the neighborhood.  Our host was gracious and attentive, answering any questions we had.  We hope to return to the very same spot when we visit Italy again.

We have just spent a wonderful week in Rome, where by far and away, the most enjoyable part of our trip was the Accommodation and the wonderful assistance we had from Marcella who lives 2 floors above. We were a group of 4 who all enjoy cooking and this Apartment accommodated us perfectly in that regard, with the luxurious surrounds together with a wonderful fruit/veg market and gourmet deli not 100m from our doorstep. If this is your gig and you are staying at this wonderful home, head down to the deli and buy some spinach and ricotta ravioli (made fresh daily), a small tub of basil pesto (also from this gem and homemade), a wedge of reggiano and some salad greens from the market and you have a dinner to remember. You will obviously need to pair your wines and we chose many with the aperitif being a bottle of Moet @ 30 euro from the supermarket 20m further on from where you will buy your salads!! I cannot recommend Valentina highly enough, forget the 5 star hotels and treat yourself.

Great Way to Stay in Rome Aug 2010

The apartment was the perfect Rome accomodation for our family of six. Plenty of space for all of us and yet it gave us a chance to come together that we couldn't get in a hotel. Great "walk to everything" location. And the landlady, is wonderful.

Valentina Apartment Jul 2010

Fabulous apartment for a family, comfortable and very clean. The location was excellent with a great surrounding area and walkable access to most other areas of interest. Taxi stand very close by too.

Loved Nino's and other restaurants in the immediate area, the owner of the apartment and the information provided by Italy Perfect was most helpful for finding restaurants.

The owner of the apartment was very helpful but not intrusive and it was nice knowing she was upstairs if we needed anything - which we did not. The apartment was very, very nice.

Valentina was almost heaven. The view from our corner was wonderful. We were serenaded every day. We loved the local market, restaurants and our neighbors. We will definitely stay in Valentina when we return to Rome.

Perfect in Every Way Dec 2009

We just returned from spending Thanksgiving in Rome where our son was spending a college semester studying abroad, and had the great fortune to discover Italy Perfect and Lisa Byrne as we were searching for an apartment. We were originally booked for another apartment through Italy Perfect, but due to an unexpected construction matter, Lisa informed us that we had the option of staying at the beautiful Valentina apartment near the Spanish Steps. We were staying for 11 nights, and were going to move to the 2 bedroom Renata apartment next door after the first 6 nights as some of our traveling companions were returning home, and we no longer needed the 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. The incredibly charming owner of the apartments arrived and offered to let us stay in the larger Valentina apartment for the entire 11 nights at no additional cost. The entire experience could not have been better. The apartment is beautiful, spacious and in the perfect location in Rome. High ceilings, fabulous antiques, beautiful carpets, new bathrooms with a jetted tub and heated towel racks, a working gas fireplace to enjoy a glass of wine beside, large windows that open to the beautiful streets below, and very functional kitchen and laundry. We celebrated Thanksgiving with 15 friends who also had children studying in Rome, and the apartment was perfect. The space easily accommodated the group. It is a truly special place. Everything is within walking distance. The street is a pedestrian street, so it was quiet at night time, except for the wonderful violinist out on the corner. Great restaurants of all price ranges are withing minutes of the apartment, as well as markets. Via Condotti is a very short block away with the most spectacular designer stores. The daily housekeeping by Nelly was a real treat. We really cannot say enough about how great Italy Perfect, Lisa, Marcella and the apartment all are. We will definitely contact Lisa again for our next trips to Italy, France or London. Many thanks for helping make our trip to Roma so special.

Valentina: Great Apartment Dec 2009

Just got back a couple weeks ago from a wonderful stay at the Valentina apartment. Working with Italy Perfect was, well, perfect. Lisa was very responsive to all of our questions and gave us plenty of useful information in preparation for our trip. The location was great. Even though it got quite crowded just a couple streets away, the area right by the apartment was always uncrowded and relatively quiet.

Positives: Apartment was very spacious and clean. It had almost everything we needed (except for minor things like napkins and washcloths). Beds were very comfortable. Marcella, the woman who owns the apartment, lives in the same building and was very pleasant. There are a ton of restaurants and shops very near by, as well as a daily fruit and vegetable market just down the street. There is an elevator in the building which was quite welcome after long days filled with walking. It's small, only two people can fit. But the stairs weren't bad as an alternative, with the apartment being on the third floor.

Negatives: The back bedroom got quite a lot of noise at night. We could hear the people walking and talking upstairs, and were also awakened by a dog barking, baby crying, and birds (of all things) in the middle of the night. This is not said to discourage anyone from staying here - I think these are typical noises you will encounter living in an apartment anywhere. I am just mentioning it to make sure future dwellers are prepared! Bring some earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

The smallest bedroom has a "loft", which is accessed by a ladder and really only has room for the mattress. I think it would be adventuresome for children, but quite undesirable for an adult. Additionally, the shower in the corresponding bathroom was TINY and did not get used at all by us.

The apartment was a joy to come back to every night and we are so glad we chose to stay there. We would recommend the apartment without hesitation!

We enjoyed our stay in via Bocca di Leone Nov 2009

Dear Pat; just to say, if I haven't done so before, how much we enjoyed our stay in via Bocca di Leone, very many thanks for your help with that.  And also for the children's Rome guide, there is some good stuff in there which our 8 year old son liked (and indeed plenty of things which I liked!).

Kind regards and best wishes Tom

Two couples Oct 2009

Valentina apartment exceeded our expectations. The location, in a "pedestrian only" area near the Spanish Steps, has to be one of the best in Rome. Restaurants, caffes, wine shops and groceries are a short walk.

Naturally our wives were ecstatic when they realized the exclusive shops of Via Condotti were just a few meters from our door. The sparkling clean interior is very well appointed with many pieces from the owner's family home.

Although in a busy area, with no autos, it was very quiet for sleeping. The owner, who lives two floors above, and her assistant were very attentive. We are already planning a return stay at the Valentina apartment in 2010.

Roma Vacation Aug 2009

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the first leg of our Italian vacation in Rome. Our beautiful apartment, Valentina, was exceptionally situated in an exciting part of the city. The metro was easily accessable as were many cafes. We enjoyed watching the people, shopping and becoming part of the fabric of the Piazza de Spagna neighborhood. My personal favorite was coming home in the hot afternoon from touring to recover for the evening. At dusk almost every evening, a sole violinest played on the street corner below. His melodies wafted through the buildings making their way to my window above. I sat enjoying the scene below and was transported to another time.

Valantina was a well appointed, comfortable place to come home to. We look forward to visiting again and returning to these wonderful accomdations.

Rome at it's best Apr 2009
We throughly enjoyed our stay in Rome. The location was very close to the Spanish Steps which made it an easy landmark to find (especially for the directionally challenged Lori). Now for the apartment, a lovely renovation that keep to the character of the building. It was so welcoming at the end of a busy day of shopping and touring to sit with a glass of wine and review the events of the day. It was very clean, well stocked, safe, close to grocery store and with lovely high ceilings. Lori

The Valentina apartment is spacious and elegant. The owner lives in the same apartment complex so she's close by if you have any questions or concerns. Location was central to the sites we visited (Vatican Museum, Pantheon, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain) and it was nice to have the metro only a few blocks away. Rome is an amazing city. The history, the architecture, the art, the food, the people are fabulous. We hope to return for a longer stay and venture out to other parts of Italy as well. I highly recommend Italy Perfect.

It was much more than I expected Feb 2009
Dear Pat,I just wanted to send you a little note to tell you about our fabulous trip to Rome. It was much more than I expected . I can not wait to return and spend more time exploring. First, the apartment was perfect for us. Our hostess was is lovely and couldn't have been nicer. I felt very comfortable and at home in the apartment. It is very well equipped, even though I didn't cook it was nice to have breakfast and it was fun going to the market and experiencing the Roman way of life. Loved the area. I feel very confident in referring your services to friends. We were a little apprehensive renting, but after such a wonderful experience I really feel it is the perfect way to spend a holiday with family. You obviously have great taste and I will be in touch with you for future rentals. Maybe, Paris next year. Thank you again. Anne Marie

The apartment was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. Marcella greeted us upon arrival and was very gracious. She was always available for any questions or issues. We absolutely loved the location and couldn't stop commenting on how beautiful the neighborhood is. While the neighborhood is very upscale, there are still many casual and inexpensive restaurants in the neighborhood. We were able to walk everywhere in the city from our neighborhood. The decorations around the city during the Christmas were fabulous and we really enjoyed spending New Year's Eve in Rome. It did seem a little wild that night. We had been told in advance that it would be safe, and it was. We highly recommend Valentina!

Delighted by location, spaciousness and style. Nov 2008

As you predicted we were delighted by its location, spaciousness and stylish furnishings. The hostess was charming and the apartment was a fitting place in which to end our European travels. The arrangements all worked perfectly. It was truly superior to the hotel D'Ingelterra next door where I have stayed sometimes on prior business visits. We now appreciate the full value of your recommendation and thank you for offering us this property. We were very happy clients and will no doubt return to your apartments.

We'll definitely recommend it Jul 2008

I've been meaning to email you to let you know what a GREAT time we had in Rome and how much we loved staying in the apartment.

S. Mize, Atlanta, Georgia

This apartment worked out beautifully Apr 2008

Rome was the highlight of our trip. This is the 3rd time traveling to Europe with the kids and each time we have the best time.

The accommodations were perfect. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable. I'm particular and this apartment worked out beautifully - from the location to the linens and towels. The layout worked out great as well. My son, Tommy (12) loved the small room with the loft and my daughter, Sarah (10) loved having the larger bedroom in the back to her self with the large closet.

It's hard to say what we liked the most - for me it was the bed in the master bedroom. The comforter and linens were great and it's the best nights' sleep I had in Italy.

The only problems we encountered were the water pressure in the back bathroom shower. The kids used our shower which was fine. [Water pressure is a city-wide issue, maybe that is why Romans prefer baths in tubs. Pat]

The location was perfect for us. We walked everywhere, even to the Vatican and the Colosseum. Each night we walked to dinner and back which was great and we loved all of the shopping.

Our favorite restaurants were Nino's; Ristorante Mario; and Recafe. I was a big fan of the fresh produce market at the end of the street every morning. The vendors were so cheerful and helpful and the cafe on the way was great. I got pastries for the kids every morning on my way back from the open market.

I would recommend anyone use Ann Hogan, private tour guide. She made our visit to the Vatican an amazing experience. We could not have done it justice on our own and 3 hours flew by.

Our greeter did a great job filling in and was very helpful with some recommendations. I will definitely look to using your service again when we go back to Italy - and your sister's if it's London or Paris.

The apartment in Rome was fabulous Apr 2008

Thanks Lisa, we are back from our trip to Italy, and the apartment in Rome was fabulous.  We thoroughly enjoyed having our own Roman home for a few days.  What an ideal location! Thanks for your help in setting up these accommodations.

Valentina was nothing short of spectacular.  Marcella was icing on the cake.  I can't recommend it more highly.  Thank you for offering such a wonderful apartment in the heart of Rome.  Our friends were jealous that we found such a jewel.  I have given your name and the apartment info to several of my friends.
