Large and elegant apartment in the finest historic center area of Rome.
Overlooking the exclusive Hotel d'Inghilterra and on the corner of fashionable Via Condotti in Rome, the Zegno apartment is in the heart of all that is elegant in the Eternal City. A two minute walk puts you in front of the Spanish Steps, a location that is so popular because it is so central. Stroll for 15 minutes and you can find yourself at most of the noteworthy sites of historic Rome.
The building mirrors the neighborhood, a proper "palazzo" built about 250 years ago when the Princes Torlonia were amassing their fortunes by managing the fortunes of the Vatican and build the palace across the street. The warm ochre of the Palazzo, enhanced by its white marble casements, dominates the near-view from two of the living room windows. The palace is subtly lit at night; it glows but doesn't glare into the windows.
The apartment is on the fifth floor (third, European designation) and is in the same building as the Renata and Valentina apartments.
Elegance and refinement describe the Zegno apartment. It is large, comfortable and is first class apartment for visitors to Rome who want the "best of the best" in a vacation apartment. The apartment's top floor position ensures plenty of light. There are large, handsome windows in the living room, two look towards Via Condotti which goes to the Spanish Steps and two overlook Hotel d'Inghilterra and via Bocca di Leone.
The apartment is entered through a set of double doors. First is a a vestibule where the owner (who does not live on the premises) has a small desk to organize check-in's and housekeeping. There is a room off the vestibule where the housekeeper, who cares for the Zegno, Valentina and Renata apartments, lives. Straight ahead are the doors to enter the Zegno apartment.
The living room is roomy, with a comfortable sofa and four upholstered armchairs. There is a long antique dining table that will seat eight. There are many beautiful antiques and paintings from the owner's ancestral home in Puglia. A flat screen TV mounted in the corner receives some English-language news stations.
Next to the living room is a large bedroom accented with Pompeii red walls; the beds can be configured as two twin beds or made up together as a dual-king. There is a large armoire style closet and a handy built-in luggage rack for a suitcase. The built-in bookshelves have an interesting selection of literature and art books.
Down the hallway is a bathroom in creamy marble with a sink, toilet, shower and bidet.
Further down the hall is the kitchen. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the attractive courtyard, filling the room with light. The kitchen has marble countertops, four burner gas stove, washer, dryer, dishwasher, small refrigerator/freezer, toaster and coffee maker, dishes, flatware, pots and pans. No microwave.
Off the kitchen is a split bathroom done in white mosaic tiles. One part has a small sink and toilet. The second part has double sinks and a large glass-walled modern shower
Continuing down the hallway is the smallest of the bedrooms; it faces the inner courtyard. It has a twin bed, a small desk, a lamp, plus a sleeping loft with safety rails has a French twin, i.e. large twin mattress. The loft is accessed by a ladder. There is a light mounted on the wall in the loft, handy for reading at night.
The third bedroom is at the back of the apartment, it also faces the inner courtyard. The beds can be configured as two twin beds or made up together as a dual-king. There is a wall of floor-to-ceiling closets and cupboards. Opposite is a small balcony with planters that opens onto the interior of the block with views of several nice terraces and well-gardened balconies.
The en suite master bathroom is also done in light marble. It has sink with good countertop space, a toilet, bidet and bathtub with a shower sprayer that can hook up high on the wall, no door or shower curtain on tub.
The floors throughout are terracotta tiles. Light housekeeping every other weekday except holidays.

Large and elegant apartment in the finest historic center area of Rome.
• The location is terrific.
• To give a sense of calm luxury, linens are primarily crisp white.
• Particular attention has been paid to the needs of vacation guests so that there is a place for luggage and closets are open so things don't get lost in drawers.
• The loft bed will probably appeal only to teenagers; you can't stand up in the loft and you've got to climb up on a ladder.
• Via Condotti is a pedestrian-only street, except for taxis, local deliveries and motorini (motor scooters) that seem to buzz around with impunity. In the warm months the murmur of the pedestrians can carry up to open living room windows and the front bedroom windows. The master bedroom and small bedroom windows open onto the interior courtyard, quiet.
