Rome Apartment Landini Tour

The Roman palazzo that houses the
Fontana and Landini apartment is just beyond the famous turtle
fountain.
Comfortably sized and creatively
decorated living room is gracious, spacious and filled with
light.
Italian Regency sofa is flanked by the
entry way on the left and staircase to the terrace on the
right.
Expansive terrace is reached from an
entrance to the left of the photo. Iron furniture includes a table
with chairs and two large lounges.
Classic view of the rooftops of the
Eternal City is always a pleasure. St. Peter's dome is just barely
seen in the background.
Landini apartment is next to the
Fontana apartment. Eventually the apartments will be joined by a
locked gate in the terrace wall.
An after dinner drink rounds out a
satisfying meal at the apartment or at one of the many local
trattorie.
This is the view from the living room
over Via del Falegnami. The street has limited traffic because it
is so narrrow.
This 200 year old ceramic over iron
fireplace once heated the room. Today there is central heat!
Cystal chandelier augment the natural
light. Pleasant view of ochre walls and archtectural elements of
building across the street.
Dining room is separated from the
living room, on the left, by a wall with two openings.Marble topped
antique sideboard is out of view.
Breakfast in the tiny circular room
off the kitchen that was once the servants' staircase between the
floors.
Morning sun fills the small room that
houses the kitchen table.
Modern kitchen glistens. The window
opens to the internal courtyard.
Beautiful antique bedstead in master
bedroom has been adapted to a queen size bed. Room also has an
armoire and antique desk.
Master bathroom with modern sink,
iron-framed mirror. Shower over tub has a sprayer that can be held
or mounted on a bracket.
View from the master bedroom is not
scenic but is is interesting and typical of an old palazzo with
bits and pieces added over the years.
Second bedroom wndows overlook narrow
street. Occasional motorbike noise or sounds from late-night
revelers, typical in the city.
Second bathroom has large shower with
rain-style fixed shower head. This bathroom is ensuite to the
second bedroom.
Small but well organized, the third
bedroom has two twin beds that flank the pocket door. Antique
armoire and desk as well.
Across the hall from the third bedroom
with a fully enclosed shower.
Tiny window in the third bathroom
overlooks the same courtyard as the master bedroom.
Inside the well-maintained palazzo
courtyard, Renaissance murals have been restored. A few privledged
cars park in the courtyard.
Stride up and down the regal staircase
instead of the small elevator. Doors open to private apartments of
noble owners of the palazzo.
An oval window in the central
stairwell illuminates an ancestoral marble bust.
Up the stairs you wil pass this
apartment where scenes from "The Talented Mr. Ripley" were filmed.
It also featured the piazza.
The fountain in the piazza, with
turtles and nymphs, delights.
Largo Argentina just a few blocks away
is a major transportation hub. Tram bus on Via Arenula goes to
Trastevere.
Ancient buildings abound in this
neighborhood.
The nearby Largo Argentina has ancient
Roman ruins.
Neighborhood has many restaurant
choices. Just across the piazza is Pane Vino e San Daniele, an
ostaria with Friuli region fare.
A bouquet of flavors is an invitation
to savor seasonal artichokes along Via Portico di Ottavia.
Around the corner is a bakery with
local specialities, perfect for morning bread and sweets.
Choose fresh panini with sesame,
olives, braided egg bread.
An array of cookies at the local
bakery. Yum!
Local deli counter with olives, cold
meats, mozarella, pasta sauces, vegetables in oil and cold cuts for
light meals and appetizers.
Fresh fish at the neighborhood fish
monger's. Baccala (salt cod) was on sale that day!
The Jewish Ghetto of Rome with its
many local shops. This is a favorite neighborhood bakery.

Piazza Venezia is a 5-minute walk.
Victor Emanuel monument, Palazzo Venezia hosts art exhibitions,
Trajan's forum in background.
Seasonal fruits and vegetables abound
at the beautiful Campo dei Fiori morning market.
