"The apartment is a dream!" |
| Bright Artist's Loft |
This historic palace in Piazza Santa Croce contains totally up-to-date apartments in central Florence, Italy. Not only are the furnishings luxurious, the views over the piazza to the handsome medieval church are breathtaking. Each apartment features its own historic atmosphere with Renaissance murals, family heirloom antiques, and talented decorating. Many guests spend the season here, returning year after year.
Conveniently located in the heart of the historical center of Florence, in Piazza Santa Croce, the palazzo is a landmark Renaissance Palazzo, and one of the few left in the historic center of Florence with a dramatic frescoed facade.
Many people passing through Piazza Santa Croce notice Giovanni di Ser Giovanni's 1620 frescoes on the overhanging facade this handsome building, but few realize they can actually stay here. The 16th-century palazzo is owned by the gracious Contessa Piccolomini, who rents out truly spacious apartments to anyone who has ever dreamed of lying in bed near a roaring fire under a 17th-century frescoed ceiling or sipping tea in a living room surrounded by trompe d'oeil Roman ruins with a 16th-century wood ceiling above.
Piazza Santa Croce is a traffic free square but the people going through the square in the evenings may be noisy. Piazza Santa Croce is the site of occasional events. Watching the Calcio Storico in June (soccer in costumes, see photos) from the Palazzo is an exciting privilege. The Christmas Market is fun, too. Other events can include theater, music concerts and ceremonies that you may enjoy or find noisy or both! Most of these events appear on the calendar fairly late, but you can check on this site www.firenzetoday.it/eventi/. Ask us for help.
Elevator to third floor, 19 wooden steps to apartment entrance; be sure you are ready to lug your luggage up one floor.
The comfortable sized bedroom has a queen size bed that can be divided into twins; bathroom with shower. Windows overlooking the Piazza Santa Croce and, in the near distance, Brunelleschi's dome of the cathedral of Florence. Original beams and wooden columns let you know you are in Florence, but the comfortable rattan furniture and flowered fabric of the upholstery has a little bit of a tropical feel.
The living-room and kitchen have a skylight with a translucent shade that can reduce glare.
In the kitchen area, a fire can be set in the old cooking fireplace.
Independent heating and central air-conditioning.
Facilities : Washer/dryer, microwave oven, toaster, American coffee maker, satellite TV, stereo hi-fi, CD and DVD pla

| Cute apartment | Apr 2012 |
Good apartment for a couple. It's small but was just right for us, this was the location we wanted to be in. Took a fun cooking course nearby, just a 5-minute walk. This was our second stay at the Annigoni, we enjoyed it very much. |

Some people might find Annigoni noisy, but we are good sleepers, and the windows are double-paned, so not a problem. The apartment is charming and very livable. We like to hole up in the afternoon and read, and it's the perfect place for that. Also, I like to cook in sometimes, and the kitchen was convenient and well-stocked. There are plenty of markets close by, as well as wonderful places to get take-out food. Our favorite restaurants were the Osteria near the opera house (don't remember the name), and Aqua 2 a couple of blocks away--but there were many wonderful spots. You can hardly go wrong. The only drawbacks were that, although there is just one flight of stairs beyond the elevator, the steps are higher than normal, so it's a little daunting after a day of walking 5-8 miles. My least favorite thing was the tiny shower. Seems crazy to put such a small shower in an otherwise abundant bathroom. Also, the shower head is directly overhead, so the only way to dodge the water coming down on your head is by body contortions. The location is top-notch, within walking distance of everything--not even all that far from the train station (25-minute walk). Right on the bus line, and with immediate access to taxis, if you are so inclined. I recommend it highly. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Everyone bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. The travel tips they sent in advance were spot on. We know Florence very well, so didn't need to much; but the reminders were helpful. |

| Miravista was light and lovely | Jul 2005 |
We rented two apartments in Palazzo Santa Croce from July 2nd to the 16th and spent 6 weeks in Italy overall. It was a marvelous trip and we have returned highly recommending staying in apartments to our friends. We loved and would certainly return to apartments in Florence, particularly Miravista which was light and lovely, and had the wonderful terrace. |

| Donatello was grand | May 2005 |
The Palazzo Santa Croce was the perfect base for our daily wanderings through Florence. Donatello was grand and more than large enough for the four of us. |
