Panoramic 360º views of all of Florence from the bedroom and a spacious terrace for basking in the Tuscan sun from a central, deluxe apartment.

Location

This amazingly sun filled apartment is at the top of a Renaissance palazzo that faces the gallery of the Uffizi gallery, the most famous museum in Florence, across the Arno river.

Exterior

The building blends with its Renaissance-age neighbors with grey stone, pietra serena, accenting its classical proportions. The building is locked and has a doorman during business hours.

Interior

There are a few steps from the street to the level of the elevator which takes you all the way to the floor below the Torella apartment.

The staircase, 18 steps, is beautifully painted and leads past a coat closet to the main level of the apartment.

The expansive, private terrace is the highlight of the main level. It faces uphill and from there you can see across the river to Santa Croce, Ponte alle Grazie, San Miniate and Piazzale Michelangelo with its beautiful views. A garden in the summer, the terrace has a table and chairs for dining and enjoying the sun and views.

From the terrace, step into a charming room that has a full height window and door on its terrace side. There is a glass-topped table with two chairs, a bench and shelf unit in this room. A pass-through window opens onto the kitchen.

Three steps from this dining room leads into the living room with its day-bed sofa, sleeps 1, chair, credenza with television. The credenza contains the dishes and silver ware as well as the microwave. Alongside the credenza is also the refrigerator-freezer.

The kitchen is small, but has everything for preparing meals: two burner electric range, sink, coffee pot, drip coffee maker, electric tea kettle, pots, pans, knives, utensils...

The bathroom has a shower, toilet, bidet, sink and washing machine. It has an independent heating unit.

The bedroom is accessed up a narrow staircase that rises from the living room. There are 19 steps that aren't wide, about 19". Under the steps is the clothes closet and a small closet that holds the vacuum.

If the terrace weren't enough for views and light, the bedroom may even be more wonderful. A room built on top of the building, the bedroom has an arched window in each wall with a memorable view from each. The bed is a divisible king, that can be organized as separate twin beds for traveling friends. If you stay up late, maybe even just enjoying the view, you can close the light-blocking drapes so you don't have to rise with the sun.

Reviews and Customer Testimonials for Italy Vacation Rental

Our Review
  • If you like this apartment, don't hesitate to reserve it as it books up well in advance
  • Comfortable, tasteful, a terrace, incredible views in a magnificent location!
  • Living room is small but fine for 2 people.
  • Kitchen is small too, but with all the restaurants at your doorstep it is perfectly adequate.
  • Bedroom up a narrow set of stairs could pose a problem for people with mobility issues. Bathroom is on living room level.

Best Vacation Ever!!! Dec 2011

This was my first trip to Italy. I stayed in Rome, and spent a week in Florence, staying in the apartment called Torella. The location was perfect, and the apartment was amazing. When I toured the apt, I was so in awe with the views from the bedroom windows, I had to call the office the next day and ask all the questions I forgot to ask...my trip to Italy was the best trip ever, and staying in this apartment, Torella, made all the difference. When I return, I will want to stay in no other place but this apartment. Everyone associated was very nice and helpful, I highly recommend this organization and location!!

Thank you, again.....Mark

Nice views but not if you like cooking Oct 2011

The Torella apartment is one of the smallest in the Palazzo and as such had a minute kitchen and no dishwasher. But it did have excellent air conditioning which we were very grateful for.

The location is good, in a Palazzo (block of flats) on a riverside street on the left bank of the river, across the water from the main tourist attractions yet only a few minutes walk to the Ponte Vechio and to an excellent supermarket. There is a doorman on duty during ‘office hours’ Monday to Friday

After taking the lift to the fifth floor there are two sets of stairs, one from the front door up to the living room and another from the living room up to the bedroom. The bedroom is the highlight of the flat. It is the turret on top of the Palazzo with a 360 degree view all over Florence. The views are only visible from the bed or when standing up, the bottoms of the windows are too high to see much from a chair. Down the (narrow) stairs the living room is largely enclosed with one window looking out to a blank wall and a better view via another room onto the terrace. There is a multichannel TV but the only English Language Channels were News Programmes. Not a room to linger in. [There is a DVD player available.]

The kitchen is between the living room and the bathroom (nice big shower) and is minute. There is barely room for two people to stand there, there is a two ring hot plate and one electric socket into which one has a choice of plugging in a microwave, a kettle, a toaster or a coffee maker. Any lead plugged in then trails across the hotplate so a considerable degree of care is needed when using the kitchen. There is a clothes washer in the bathroom but no oven (except microwave) and no dishwasher.

Outside from the living room is a small light dining area with full length patio doors opening onto the terrace. There is a hatch between dining area and kitchen. The terrace has a good view to the hills away from the river and a view from one end of the upper reaches of the river. It is an excellent place for eating out, for catching the sun and for watching the sunset.

Our visit to Florence was marked by me being taken ill in the flat and then being taken to hospital by ambulance. The stairs were quite difficult for the ambulance men to manoeuvre but they managed. I was very impressed by the care taken by the Office (who guided us as to how to get an ambulance), by the doorman, Paolo Do Brilla, who translated for the ambulance men and by our greeter, whose name I have mislaid, who visited me during my brief stay in the hospital and also collected my prescription from the chemist,. They made a difficult experience less difficult.

Outside we tended to eat in the Oltrarno (left bank) and the Sopr’arno (overlooking the Arno) and would recommend Trattoria Borgo Antico in Piazza Santo Spirito 6r, an easy walk from the flat.

There is a great view from the Turret and the terrace, the place is comfortable, but the lack of an adequate kitchen would put us off going again. Fine if you want to eat out all the time, not otherwise.

Florence Perfect! Jul 2011

Loved this apartment!

The views from the bedroom are sublime. It is a dream.

So enjoyed having my morning coffee and evening wine on the terrace.

The location could not be better-quiet, yet an immersive experience. You really feel that you are a part of the fabric of Florence.

Highly recommend any of the tours by ArtViva. The office is an easy walking distance from the apartment, and all of the tours originate there.

We will be back and we will request the same apartment!

Torella review Jun 2011

We were met by Cristiana at the front of the Palazzo when our cab arrived. She was very nice and showed us everything in the apartment, answered all our questions and offered up some restaurant tips. The apartment is exactly as advertised; clean, quiet and well appointed with a lovely terrace and fantastic views from the bedroom. Everything worked well and the airconditioner cooled the room very effectively and quickly. The kitchen is small but sufficient for preparing breakfast. The stair up to the bedroom is a bit narrow but presented no problem. There was an iron and ironing board, a washing machine and a drying rack which worked great on the terrace. Internet worked fine.

The location is fantastic, just a 1-2 minute walk to Ponte Vecchio, very close to Pitti Palace and a short walk to the main sites on the other side of the river. It's a nice, perhaps 15 minute walk to the main train station (we day-tripped to Pisa). Nearby Museo Bardini is a little known gem. Buy Uffizi tickets in advance!

There is a great little grocery store very close by the apartment (about 1 minute walk). There are many Oltrarno restaurants worth checking out; we only crossed the river for dinner once. Borgo San Iacopo has several trattorie that we visited.

The information packet provided by Italy Perfect was the most extensive, complete set of information I've ever received in advance of visiting a rental apartment, anywhere.

I would return to this apartment and would recommend to friends.

Italy perfect is just...perfect May 2011

We were in Florence for a week, after Venice and before Rome, and only in Florence did we find our apartment through Italy Perfect. Had we known better, we would have tried to book through this company for our entire trip.

The apartment was exactly as shown on the pictures and as everyone has stated, the views are incredible. The inclusion of a patio was an added touch. We would start our days with breakfasts on the patio, and sometimes even sundowners too. Cooking was made super easy as all kitchenware and appliances have been included, right down to an american coffee maker and also an italian one, and certain food items (e.g. coffees, olive oil) too that otherwise would have been difficult to purchase for just a few days. The apartment had everything you might need, including maps, guidebooks, and a welcome bottle of prosecco in the fridge! The location was just perfect - central to every major site and museum while offering a complete escape from the crowd and noise.

The best thing about working with Italy Perfect is that communication has always been prompt, respectful and informative, from before we made our mind up about the apartment, right up to now, a couple of weeks after we have left. There were absolutely no surprises. Lisa is a fantastic resource, both with respect to the apartments she manages and Florence and Italy in general. Grazie mille!

Nov 2010

The accommodations and location were more than we expected, they were wonderful!!!

The accommodations were perfect and had everything we needed, plus cable for our computer. We were greeted by the agent who showed us how to operate everything. We were also left a welcome package which included a bottle of wine. There were also condiments left. The view from our bedroom was fabulous.

The location was near everything, it was easy to walk to the market and restaurants and go sight seeing.

The service, the accommodations, location were all "5 Star" and we would use them again.

Great apartment in a great location Aug 2010

The Torella apartment was amazing. It was on the top floor of a building along the arno River, facing the Uffizi Gallery. Every window in the bedroom had a wonderful view of the city. The apartment’s location was an easy starting point to walk to any location in central Florence. Every day for two weeks, we walked across Ponte Vecchio to begin our journeys into the city. The Uffizi was only 5 minutes away by foot. There was a great grocery store around the corner from us. They seemed to have fresh bread almost every hour. The apartment’s kitchen met all our needs, including the multiple coffee makers. Our favorite was the Italian coffee maker. We ended up buying two for back home. The apartment was perfect for us. It was always very quiet. The aC was a blessing for our two weeks in July. It was like diving into a swimming pool after being in town for the day. The washer worked perfectly. There were more than 8 settings that determined how long you wanted the wash cycle to last. For drying, there were at least 30 hangers to use, which were easy to use on the balcony. The TV had cable television with European and american stations. The internet connection worked very fast. The building’s doorman was very nice. Overall, a great experience. We were only a few buildings away from where they filmed room with a view!

Fantastic Apartment Aug 2010

The Torella apartment was fantastic. The location and views from the bedroom and terrace are more spectacular than the pictures indicate. The air conditioning in the bedroom and the living room work well, even on the hottest days of July. You'll need to be in shape to go up and down the stairs, but it is well worth it. The hosts were very welcoming, provided information on the area and even bottles of water, wine and soda.

We only have two minor criticisms of the apartment: The couch isn't the most comfortable and the washing machine doesn't work too well. It stained some of our clothes and took hours and hours to complete a load of laundry - althought we readily admit it could have been user error.

Overall we loved the apartment, would rent it again and will use Italy Perfect again on our next trip abroad.

Honeymoon at Torella Jun 2010

Laura checked us in. She was so kind to tell us where we could find a market. A map would have been really useful since we were tired from traveling all night, we couldn't remember what she had said. I loved the patio and the views from the bedroom. It was lovely to be away from all the street noise and confusion in the hotel areas and just relax. Of all the places we went in Italy, this was my favorite by far. The most fun we had was giving ourselves permission not to schedule anything; just get lost and explore. What a wonderful place to start our marriage. Thanks so much. We'll be back!

The apartment is delightful Apr 2010

I had a great time in Florence staying at La Torella. It could not have been better. The location is perfect. The apartment is delightful. It would not, however, be for someone who doesn't like to climb stairs! But I'm an old mountain goat and thought it just right.

Since I was working some of the time. I loved the terrace. On sunny days I would sit out there working, facing eastward up river.
